Highlights:
- SearchGPT is experiencing a 150% month-over-month growth rate.

- Currently available to limited users, SearchGPT is expected to reach a global audience by the end of 2024.
A new study by BrightEdge shows that OpenAI’s SearchGPT is growing faster than generative AI engines like Perplexity AI and Claude.
BrightEdge’s Generative Parser™ September data shows that SearchGPT’s growth rate is 150% month-over-month. Perplexity and Claude saw a 22% growth during the same period. However, Google still controls the search market with a 92% share.
According to BrightEdge, SearchGPT is generating more referral traffic for brands, despite being in limited beta. It is sending brands four times more referrals than Perplexity and Claude. This comes despite feedback from some users saying SearchGPT sometimes provides incorrect information.
OpenAI began testing SearchGPT as a prototype in July. Kelvin Weil, OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer, said, “It just makes the product more useful: it can answer more questions, can incorporate live information.”
Varun Shetty, OpenAI’s Head of Media Partnerships, stated that SearchGPT is expected to reach a global audience by the end of 2024. Shetty said the model will be “powerful enough” to handle complex tasks. He compares it to “a high-performing employee.”
